Freedom to go wherever I pleased without my dad checking the time and asking, "Why are you just getting home?" Freedom to fall in love with the man I wanted. Freedom to make my own decisions. Growing up in a strict home, adulthood looked like the finish line. I couldn't wait to get there—not just because I wanted freedom, but because I admired the adults around me. I looked at my aunties, my older cousins and my uncles, and they all seemed to be living the life I wanted. They went out when they wanted, bought things with their own money, made their own decisions, and nobody questioned them the way children are questioned.
