The Inevitability of Gossip

You can't avoid people talking about you or better put, gossiping about you. It's a part of life. No matter how hard you try to stay quiet or unnoticed in your life, something must be said. There has to be a cause for gossip. Even that very quiet life can be a big subject matter for some people on your behalf.  Humans, by nature, are social creatures. As a part of this, one of how people socialize is through discussion or gossip about other individuals. Multiple factors make it almost impossible to avoid people talking or gossiping about you.

Everyone has the right to their opinions. Some people in a way validate their opinion about you or something, they naturally want to share their beliefs, opinions, or judgment with another person. If both parties are connected, gossip will be very much achieved.

Humans are naturally curious creatures. We are fascinated by each other's lives and experiences. We are more curious when we don't even know the things we want to know. Consequently, people will often assume, speculate about, or discuss each other's actions, choices, behaviors, situations, and lifestyles.

Gossip thrives in one's absence. In your absence, you have no control over what others are saying about you. You could just be somewhere in your quiet life but you don't know that a lot is being said about you. You can't help it, it's beyond your control. People often find the freedom to discuss you when you're not present to refute their claims or justify your actions.

Jealousy will make some people gossip about you. It's not your fault that someone chose to be jealous of you and you cannot help it if the person constantly talks about you. Gossip serves as a tool for jealous individuals to tarnish the image of those they envy, indirectly asserting their superiority or soothing their envy

Gossip is often used as a form of social bonding. When someone who knows how to gossip meets another person who knows how to listen and contribute, they have formed a wonderful team. Whether the people involved in the gossip love each other or not as long as they both harbor similar feelings of jealousy for you, they are connected.

While it is not possible to stop people from talking about you completely, one can make an effort to live in a manner that limits negative talk and generates positive conversations instead. Be mindful of what you share with people. and remember that you can't please everyone, so instead, focus on being true to yourself and making choices that align with your values and beliefs.

  1. Thank you yet again for this very spot-on and intriguing peice. You know i always look forward to reading your new publications. Here's my take on the above subject matter. Reading through this right now and this question popping in my mind --- Is there such a thing as GOOD GOSSIP? You know personally i think most of us are guilty of gossiping. Gossips are everywhere. I would say gossip isn't inherently bad, but it does have the potential to turn really unhealthy. It is up to you to discern and differentiate between harmless positive chitchat and malicious rumors.. Many at times i feel like majority of us can actually discern gossip but we just allow ourselves get carried away and swim with the tides.
